Chiloquin Learns After School (CLAS) is an after school program that serves students in grades K-6. It is a direct project of Chiloquin Visions In Progress and a program of record with the state of Oregon. CLAS is operated in cooperation with the Chiloquin Elementary School and the Klamath County School District. Our program goals include:

• Provide a safe, supervised and caring place for K - 6th grade children during after-school hours

• Provide students enrichment in areas not available or emphasized at local school (art, dance, drama, food preparation, science, physical fitness, and character education)

• Involve parents and foster a community-wide effort to improve the quality of life for area children

CLAS opened in October 2004 and has been in operation every year since. During these years the program has benefited tremendously from the skills of many of the adults and high school students in our community. The CLAS program has a dedicated steering committee whose members include retired grade school teacher and founder of the program, Anne Curren; former Chiloquin Elementary and High School principal, John Rademacher; former CVIP board members Sally Wells and David Carroll; and current board member Eileen Bucklin. The program currently operates with staff: one head teacher, 3 aides, volunteers and parents.

Past years have seen the program achieve several of its goals. We were able to offer the program 4 days a week for all ages. With growth and expansion of this program, we look forward to continuing to build the relationships in our community that have fostered these accomplishments.

The program would not be possible without financial support and cooperation of numerous organizations and individuals over the years including the Klamath County School District, the Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation, the Ford Family Foundation, Pacific Power Foundation, Klamath County Safe Schools / Healthy Students Initiative, Chiloquin Elementary School, the Klamath Tribes, the Gordon Elwood Foundation, Union Pacific, United Way, Trust Management, Inc., Safeco, USDA, Integral Youth Services, OSU Extension Service, and individual donors.

Chiloquin Visions In Progress is excited to announce that the Ford Family Foundation has awarded a three-year  $45,000 grant in support Chiloquin Learns After School. This, along with our partnership with the Klamath County School System, ensures CLAS will be in session for the next three years!

Chiloquin Visions In Progress is proud to be able to offer our free after-school program to all youth in the greater Chiloquin area, grades K-6. The school year is nearly upon us, it's time to sharpen our pencils and our minds and do what we do best... care for the needs of our community.

We wouldn't be here without your generous support.
